How does Skin Tech Easy TCA Peel work?

The TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) Peel has been used for many years to treat facial wrinkles, age spots, pigment abnormalities, mask of pregnancy and other superficial skin problems such as sun damaged skin, acne, acne scarring, freckles, appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and the appearance of superficial scars.

There is no need for any skin preparation when using Easy TCA Peel and it can be applied directly on top of makeup, although it is advisable to clean the skin beforehand.

When TCA is applied to the skin, it causes the top layers of cells to dry up and peel off over a period of several days. When the old skin has peeled off, it exposes a new layer of undamaged skin which has a smoother texture and more even colour. More than one TCA peel may be required to achieve the desired results. The Easy TCA Peel is a highly effective medium depth peel. A short recovery time is required with a TCA peel, however, this can be timed around your daily living by having a peel mid-week in order to experience the peeling 3-4 days later.

The Procedure

After cleansing the skin to remove oils, the peeling agent is carefully applied. Within minutes, there is a very warm sensation that feels like sunburn. This lasts for a few minutes and is rapidly relieved by the application of cool air and a post peel mask. Very rarely, there may be some swelling, especially around the eyes for the first two days, but discomfort is minimal. By the third or fourth day, the skin has a tight feeling and sheds. This is replaced by skin with a pink colour and smooth texture, usually by day 7.

Aftercare

When you do start to peel, do not rub the skin harshly or use exfoliant products. These can cause redness and irritation and possible infection.

Use the moisturising cream supplied. It is important to remember that whilst undergoing treatment with Easy TCA Peel the skin has little or no protection to UV light (both UVA and UVB).

How soon can I resume normal activities?

Anyone who has had a TCA peel is more sensitive to sunlight for at least 6-8 weeks after their peel. During this time you must use an SPF30 cream to protect the skin, even in winter, wear hats and avoid strong sunlight. Otherwise you can carry on with normal activities and most people show no outward signs that they are undergoing a course of skin peels.

Most people have similar aging and sun damage changes on the neck, chest and hands as are present on the face. Fortunately, TCA peels can be performed successfully on these other non-facial areas as well.
